Bee Cheng Hiang agrees to 1-for-1 exchange after customer found bak kwa to be 'super hard'
A man was so disappointed by the "super hard" bak kwa he bought from Bee Cheng Hiang that he wrote to the company about it.
Stomper Tan also sent a copy of the email to Stomp.
He said he had bought the grilled meat on May 17 but would not specifiy the outlet, just that it was in the east.
"I let my family try two pieces. They were so 'chao ta' (charred) and so hard," recounted the Stomper, who shared a video showing someone tearing a piece of bak kwa with an audible snap to demonstrate how hard it was.
"We were taken by surprise. It was freshly sliced bak kwa, but it didn't seem to be freshly grilled."
The Stomper added that the Bee Cheng Hiang staff told him the food could be kept at room temperature for seven days.
"We could not imagine how it would taste like if we were to try it on the seventh day after leaving it at room temperature," said Tan.

He also suspected he got less than the 500g of bak kwa he paid for.
"The auntie didn't show me the weight of the bak kwa before packing it," claimed the Stomper. "I felt the weight seems light.
"I am really very disappointed that Bee Cheng Hiang, such a big brand name, but yet the quality was not there at all."
On May 24, Tan informed Stomp that after his feedback to the bak kwa seller, Bee Cheng Hiang agreed to do a one-to-one exchange.
When he returned the bak kwa, the scale showed the weight was around 428 grams and that was the amount of new bak kwa he got back.

"The aunty was cutting here and there to ensure it was close to 428g so the company wouldn't suffer a loss of that 72g of bak kwa," recounted the Stomper. "It was not the full 500g that I had previously paid for."
He also shared photos to show that the staff was not wearing gloves to cut the bak kwa.

"And worst of all, I had to stand there wait for them to inspect my original 420g of bak kwa and test the hardness of it as well as question me as where and when I bought it," said Tan.
"During the process, she added that this new batch of bak kwa was specially selected for me."
Stomp has contacted Bee Cheng Hiang for more info.
