A resident has complained that parcel sorting activities at the void deck of a Bedok Reservoir Road block has made the area “untidy”.

Stomper Wong said the issue had been happening for about a week at Block 619 Bedok Reservoir Road.

“Almost every morning, two to three men will be here sorting the parcels,” he said. “The parcels will be there until night time.”

Photos taken on March 30 and March 31 show boxes, parcels and bags spread across the ground of the void deck. The labels on the packages indicate they were handled by SPX Express.

The Stomper said the area was “untidy and dirty” and the sound of tape being pulled could be heard even from higher floors.

“I am wondering why they cannot do this at their warehouse,” he said. “Void decks are not meant to be distribution centres.”

Wong said he reported the matter to the town council.

In response to a Stomp query, the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) said its property officer visited the site after receiving feedback from residents.

“The officer spoke to the workers on-site and advised that the space used for parcel sorting should be kept orderly, as excessive use of the void deck space and poor housekeeping are not appropriate and affect the shared spaces,” AHTC said.

The property officer also contacted the person in charge of the parcel sorting operations to convey these concerns: “The party involved acknowledged the feedback and was advised to refrain from using large common areas in a manner that causes inconvenience to residents.”

During a follow-up check on April 2, the AHTC said no parcel sorting activities were observed at the void deck.

“AHTC will continue to monitor the situation to ensure common areas are used appropriately and residents’ living environment is not adversely affected,” the town council said.

Wong shared with Stomp photos taken on April 3 and 8 of workers sorting parcels at a multi-storey carpark at Block 613C Bedok Reservoir Road.

“The groups with the vans are there daily from 8.30am onwards,” he said, having observed one group handling Taobao deliveries and another handling Shopee parcels.

Under the Courier Hub Scheme, courier companies are allowed to use designated authorised lots at certain multi-storey carparks where delivery personnel can safely sort and handle parcels.

In a separate case, Stomper GX shared photos of parcels left unattended at the void deck of Block 90B Jalan Satu on March 28.

The Stomper said the parcels, believed to be handled by SPX Express, were left overnight and questioned who would be responsible if they went missing.

Stomp understands no parcels delivered to residents in that block were reported as missing.

Responding to Stomp’s queries, Shopee said it takes such feedback seriously.

“We have worked with our third-party logistics partner to review the incidents and to reinforce responsible delivery practices,” the company said.

Shopee added that it regrets any inconvenience caused and remains committed to ensuring deliveries are conducted safely and responsibly.
