Australian man allegedly stole $466 facial product and $193 perfume from Changi Airport store
A 45-year-old Australian man was arrested for his suspected involvement in two cases of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a case of shop theft at a duty-free Shilla Cosmetics and Perfumes store on May 27 at about 11.30pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had entered the retail shop, allegedly taken a bottle of facial product worth $466 from the display shelf, and left without paying.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from the Airport Police Division identified the man and arrested him on June 1.
He is also believed to have stolen a second item, a bottle of perfume valued at $193, on the same day, from the same store.
The man will be charged in court on June 12 with theft in dwelling.
If convicted, he could be jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.
The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and that offenders will be dealt with firmly.
They added that the authorities will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter such offences.
