Aunty confronts man going around asking for cash on train: 'Start earning your own money!'
A woman was caught on camera chiding a man going around asking for money on the MRT train on Dec 13.
Stomper Lee alerted Stomp to a 52-second video of the incident posted by TikToker adorablyxevil.
The subtitle read: "The guy in blue has been walking around asking people for cash. An aunty did give him $10 but he still continued to ask around. He doesn't stop asking. Even if you say no, he will keep asking.
"Kudos to this aunty to confront him and managed to get him to get off the train."
The TikToker made a correction in the description: "Edit - this aunty did not give him the $10! It was another aunty!
"I salute the aunty for confronting him!! She is so brave. Meanwhile I was a bit scared and changed cabin LOL."
Because of the noise on train, it was difficult to hear what was said in the video.
But towards the end of the video, she can be heard telling the man: "Start earning your own money! You're a man, man! Got it? I'll call the police and get you. Don't go around and ask (for) money."
The video has more than 215,000 views on TikTok and was shared on other platforms, including Reddit.
One Redditor commented: "It's very surprising that the 'beggar' willing to stay there and listen to her."
Someone asked in the TikTok comments: "What was his reason for asking money? Couldn't hear him."
The TikToker replied: "There wasn't any reason, he just entered the train and asked around for cash. That's why I moved my seat quickly."
Begging is illegal in Singapore.
Under the Destitute Person Act, any person found habitually begging in a public place in a way that is likely to cause annoyance or otherwise creates a nuisance shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
