Inflation bites again?

Astons Steak & Salad customers have to pay a service charge and goods and service tax (GST) starting from Dec 1.

The restaurant chain was previously known for not adding service charge and GST to the bill.

An online announcement for its customers said: "Effective Dec I, 2024, your total bill will be subject to a 10 per cent service charge and the prevailing 9 per cent GST.

"This step is necessary to adapt to increasing operational challenges while continuing to provide the quality you deserve.

"We sincerely appreciate your understanding and unwavering support during this transition."

The Astons Steak & Salad menu now has the small print: "All prices subjected to 10 per cent service charge and prevailing government tax."

"That's basically a 19 per cent increase?" asked one netizen.

A Redditor commented: "Dear Astons, Perhaps moving back to coffee shops like how you started at some places will help you to lower your cost and help us to patronise you more. We order at the counter, short of having to put the plates back, and for that, plus the shrunk sizes, gotta pay 10% service charge for the shrunk service? Hmmmm..."

Astons Steak & Salad has outlets in Marina Square and Centrepoint.
