Another woman with mysteriously torn passport asked to pay $60 by JB customs officer
A woman believes her Singapore passport was torn by a Malaysian immigration officer, who then allegedly asked her for RM200 ($60).
Stomper J had read about a similar incident that happened to a 72-year-old woman last month and decided to share her 28-year-old sister's experience.
She said her family travelled to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, via car on Nov 27, 2024.
J, who was not part of the trip but learnt of the incident afterwards, told Stomp: "My parents' friends were there too, so it was a large seven-seater car.
"My sister handed her passport to the driver as usual. She was sure her passport was fine before travelling in.
"However, the JB customs officer said my sister could not pass because her passport was torn. He said they had to pay him RM200 and he would let her pass.
"The older adults negotiated with the officer and they ended up paying him RM100 ($30)."

J's family did not report the incident to the authorities because they did not have evidence about what happened to the passport.
She added: "There was no proof that the officer tore the passport even though my sister is sure that he did it."
"We were told to contact Stomp by a family member, who said it is better to raise awareness about such cases."
