Ang Mo Kio stall has 'exorbitant' prices and 'so damn rude' hawkers not wearing masks: Stomper
A diner is thoroughly unimpressed with a stall at 409 AMK Market And Food Centre, from its prices to the service standards.
Stomper Liza first complained to Stomp about the economy rice and porridge stall, located at Block 409 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, on May 27.
She alleged: "This stall simply charges customers a high price.
"When I told the three owners to give me fresh, hot rice, they stared at me and told me off. The husband even chased me away while I was ordering food.
"How can a hawker center in the market tell customers off??? It was a very bad experience and this was not the first time they gave me cold, burnt rice.
"I hope the authorities will do something about this."
Liza did not have photos of the burnt rice, but shared a picture of her meal from the stall. It consisted of rice with pig skin, vegetables, fried omelette, and a small whole fish.
"I think they charged me $8.50," she told Stomp. "It's too expensive for a market area."
Liza contacted Stomp again on July 10 and ranted: "I hope you will randomly check their exorbitant prices. It's a waste of my time to give you feedback if no action is taken.
"The three hawkers (father, mother and daughter) are so damn rude too when you ask about the price. They are not happy to serve people who ask about prices. Is it not the customers' right to ask for prices before ordering food???
"They do not even put on masks when serving food. I thought it is a MUST for hawkers to wear masks at all times whether they serve food or not."
A photo taken by Liza on July 10 shows a female hawker at the stall scooping food for a customer.
The Stomper added: "I took this as proof and if the authorities are not going to take action, this will be my last feedback."
As part of licensing requirements for food establishments, food handlers are required to wear a mask or spit guard to prevent them from coughing or sneezing and contaminating food during the food preparation and handling process, including:
- Preparation of ingredients and/or cooking of food
- Packing of cooked and/or Ready-to-Eat food
- Dishing of cooked and/or Ready-to-Eat food
- Preparation of drinks
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) states on its website that it "will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone who does not comply with the mask or spit guard-wearing requirement."
