AMK shop falls victim to theft again: Woman caught on CCTV taking $49 rice cooker
A family-run retail store in Ang Mo Kio is appealing for witnesses and support after they were allegedly hit by another case of theft.
Stomper Vincent shared CCTV footage of the incident which occurred on May 6 at about 7.02pm.
In the video, a woman wearing a face mask is seen entering the store carrying just a handbag and an umbrella.
However, she is seen leaving shortly afterwards with a third item: a Sona rice cooker.
Vincent said the appliance costs $49.
He has since made a police report and said he wants to share the video in the hopes of someone coming forward with information and to send a clear message: "Please do not steal from small businesses."
In August 2023, a man was caught on video taking a $79 DVD player from the store.
However, after Stomp's report on the incident, the man made mediation and apologised for taking it.
"I really appreciate Stomp's help," said Vincent. "This is the second time already."
He added that the incident that occurred at their store located at Block 728 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 has been 'deeply disheartening'.
"As a traditional retail store, we are already struggling to survive amid the growing shift to online shopping.
"Every dollar counts, and the item stolen this time is worth our takings for the next few days.
"For us, this isn't just theft -- it's a serious blow to our livelihood."
The Stomper hopes the public will help support small businesses like his family's by staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity.
"Let's work together to keep our neighbourhood safe and fair for everyone," he said.
"If you were in the area or recognise the person in the footage, please come forward or contact the police with any information.
"Your help can make a difference."
In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
