A 35-year-old man was charged for a series of e-commerce scams related to Apple products, car rentals and accessories.

Between May and December 2024, the police received several reports from buyers who were purportedly cheated by the seller with total losses amounting to about $23,400.

Upon receiving the payment via PayNow or bank transfer, the seller would either give excuses on failed delivery or become uncontactable.

Through follow up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on Jan 10.

He was charged in court on Jan 11 for cheating, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police advised: "If the price is too good to be true, it probably is. Purchase only from authorised sellers or reputable sources, especially for high-value items."
