Neighbours told Shin Min Daily News that the man had fallen and been hospitalised three times before.

A housewife who lives opposite the man's unit said he last suffered a fall a few days before the Lunar New Year, adding: "I saw him bleeding and being taken to hospital on a stretcher."

She also described the man as a friendly neighbour and said: "Only when police came then did we learn that he had died in the flat, it's really pitiful."

Police investigations are ongoing.
