A 50-year-old woman in a wheelchair who had fallen into a reservoir was pronounced dead in hospital.

The incident happened at around noon on March 22 at Lower Seletar Reservoir in Yishun New Town.

Mr Wei, 29, told Shin Min Daily News that when he passed by the reservoir in the afternoon, he saw Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel and police officers in the area and a blue tent set up.

"I walked over and saw a wheelchair on the grass slope," he said, adding that the area was cordoned off.

A male resident shared that at around 1pm, he saw police cars and fire trucks parked on the side of the road. A dock platform extending from the park to the reservoir was blocked and several police officers were present.

"I saw someone being taken to an ambulance on a stretcher," he said.

"There were several police officers conducting an investigation in the area but I didn't know what exactly happened."

Police confirmed they received a call at 11.55am on March 22 about a woman seen floating in the water.

She was unconscious when taken to hospital.

Preliminary investigations ruled out foul play.
