480 bottles of duty-unpaid liquor found in shipping container in Tanjong Pagar
A total of 480 bottles of duty-unpaid liquor were found in a shipping container in Tanjong Pagar on May 20, said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a Facebook post on July 17.
ICA officers at Tanjong Pagar Scanning Station had directed the 40-footer container for radiographic scanning and noticed anomalies in the scanned image.
During the enhanced checks, ICA found the smuggled liquor and more than 12 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
In another case on June 18, ICA officers at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station uncovered 48 bottles of duty-unpaid assorted liquor, 72 cans of duty-unpaid beer and a carton of undeclared meat in a shipping container.
Both cases were referred to Singapore Customs and Singapore Food Agency for further investigation.
Buying, selling, conveying, delivering, storing, keeping, possessing or dealing with duty-unpaid goods are serious offences under the Customs Act and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act.
Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded and/or jailed for up to six years.
