A fire broke out on the second floor of a two-storey shophouse at Jalan Tampang in Sembawang on Jan 8.

Stompers Sundar and Ryan alerted Stomp to the fire and shared videos of the roaring blaze.

In the clips, the fire cast an orange glow on the area and plumes of smoke were seen rising into the air.

"It was an intense battle with fire," said Ryan.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a statement on its Facebook page that they were alerted to the fire at 10A Jalan Tampang at about 8.25pm.

"Firefighters conducted forcible entry into the unit and fought the fire with two water jets," SCDF said.

"Two water jets were also deployed at the exterior of the building to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent units."

The fire was fully extinguished within an hour.

SCDF added that at the height of the firefighting operation, a total of eight emergency vehicles and about 50 firefighters from Yishun Fire Station, Woodlands Fire Station, Tampines Fire Station and the Special Response Unit were deployed.

About 100 occupants from neighbouring shophouse units were evacuated by the police and SCDF.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
