4 passengers and pedestrian taken to hospital after bus and trailer truck collide at Ophir Road
Four bus passengers, aged between 39, and 93, and a 54-year-old male pedestrian were taken to hospital after a bus and trailer truck collided near Sim Lim Tower on June 6.
The police told Stomp they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Jalan Besar and Ophir Road at about 1.45pm.
The four passengers and the pedestrian were conscious when taken to hospital, a police spokesperson said.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the five people were taken to Raffles Hospital.
Stomper Mike alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos and videos circulating online.
The accident caused a massive jam, he said.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in an update on X at 1.50pm that the section of Ophir ROad after Sungei Road was closed.
Tower Transit apologised in a statement on its Facebook page at 3.14pm and said Ophir Road was 'impassable to traffic'. The incident also affected bus services 980 and 857 with delays of up to 30 minutes.
In an update, Tower Transit said that they are assisting the five people and their families.
In one of the clips, the Tower Transit bus collides with rebars that were secured onto the bed of a trailer truck.
The rebars break through the bus windows and as the vehicle moves forward, they are dragged off the trailer truck.
In other photos and clips, the left side of the double-decker bus is damaged and several glass panels are shattered.
An elderly passenger is also seen being attended to by a worker who helped to bandage his head.
Police investigations are ongoing.
