4 men allegedly stole $10k worth of copper wire from Clementi worksite, sold it to scrap metal firm

Four men, aged between 24 and 30, were arrested for allegedly breaking into a construction site along Clementi Road and stealing around $10,000 worth of copper wire.

The police said they were alerted to the case of housebreaking and theft at around 8.35pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the men had allegedly stolen the copper wires and sold them to a scrap metal company.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identities of the four men and arrested them on Feb 4.

The four men were charged in court on Feb 6 with housebreaking and theft with common intention , which carries up to ten years in jail and a fine.

The owner of the scrap metal company will be investigated under Section 4 of the Secondhand Goods Dealer Act 2007.

The company's staff who received the copper wires will also be investigated for possible offence of dishonestly receiving stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code 1871.
