39-year-old man arrested for loanshark harassment at Yishun: 'Next time I come is not eggs'
A 39-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
The police said in a statement that on Feb 24 at about 8.50pm, they were alerted to the case a residential unit at Yishun Ring Road.
Eggs had been thrown at the unit's door and two debtor's notes had been left behind.
The notes have the same message: "Don't think your house got CCTV, I will do all your neighbours. Next time I come is not eggs."
Officers established the identity of the man and arrested him on Feb 25.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is allegedly involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.
He will be charged in court on Feb 27 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loan shark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years' jail and six strokes of the cane.
The police said they have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities.
"Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law," the police said.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
The public can call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
