24-hour Indian Muslim eatery with drive-through service suspended 4 weeks for infestation
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is suspending Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant at Lim Teck Kim Road for four weeks from Nov 12 to Dec 9.
The Tanjong Pagar eatery accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and was fined a total of $800 for failing to keep its premises free of infestation.
This is not the restaurant's first suspension. It was previously suspended two weeks from May 24 to June 6, 2023, for failing to keep the chiller clean, failing to register an assistant and failing to keep its pemises clean.
Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant was featured in a video posted on March 3, 2023, by former Sembawang GRC MP Amrin Amin.
The video shows him in his car picking up teh tarik from the drive-through window outside the restaurant.
Others have also posted about the restaurant online.
Because of the suspension, all food handlers working in the restaurant would be required to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1, before they can resume work as food handlers.
The licensee is also required to ensure that all food hygiene officers working in the suspended premises, if any, re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
SFA added that food business operators should observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times. This includes engaging only registered food handlers and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of licensed premises, including toilets within.
