A 23-year-old man, who participated in 2XU Compression Run on April 27 morning, has died after he was taken to hospital.

Stomper Steven alerted Stomp to a social media post about the tragedy by 2XU Compression Run in the evening.

The organiser posted: "We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of one of our participants at this morning's 2XU Compression Run.

"Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends during this difficult time."

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they received a call for assistance at Raffles Avenue at about 6.25am.

The man was unconscious when taken to the hospital and subsequently died.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.

Police investigations are ongoing.

In December 2024, a runner at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon died after finishing the race.

In 2014, 45-year-old Martynn Koh Tong Yong collapsed during the 2XU Compression Run marathon. He later died in hospital.

Even before news of the fatality, this year's 2XU Compression Run has been besotted with issues such as the race routes not being the distance advertised and bottlenecks.

The organiser posted on Facebook: "We recognise that there were areas where we fell short: the course distance did not meet expectations, and certain parts of the route became congested. We sincerely apologise for these issues.

"Your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities, and we are actively reviewing our route planning, increasing marshal coverage, and improving crowd flow measures to ensure a better experience moving forward."
