A 20-year-old Indian national will be charged in court on April 22 for allegedly molesting a female cabin crew member on board a flight to Singapore.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the incident on Feb 28 at about 12.05pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 28-year-old stewardess had been escorting a female passenger to the lavatory when she noticed a piece of tissue paper on the floor.

As she bent forward to pick it up, the man allegedly appeared behind her, grabbed her, and pushed her into the lavatory with him.

The female passenger, who witnessed the incident, quickly intervened and helped the crew member out of the lavatory.

The matter was reported to the cabin supervisor, and the man was arrested by Airport Police Division officers when the aircraft landed at Changi Airport.

The man will be charged with the offence of using criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty, which carries up to three years in jail, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.

Commander of the Airport Police Division, Assistant Commissioner M Malathi, said: "We take such incidents seriously as cabin crew are trained professionals dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers. The police remain committed to protecting airline staff and passengers on board from any form of sexual harassment or assault."

The police emphasised their firm stance against sexual offenders and said such acts, whether committed in the air or on the ground, will be dealt with sternly.
