Two rabbits died after they were found in a cage abandoned in Ang Mo Kio, said the Singapore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in a social media post on Dec 10.

SPCA had received a report of abandoned animals at the washing area at Block 407 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Dec 3.

"The rabbits were visibly frightened and suffering from severe skin issues. The caller kindly moved the cage to a sheltered area while awaiting our help," said SPCA.

The animals were transported to the SPCA veterinary clinic for treatment and were diagnosed with scabies.

"Tragically, one of the rabbits went into cardiac arrest during examination and could not be saved. The second rabbit passed away on Dec 10," said SPCA.

In the same social media post, SPCA said it rescued another two rabbits on Nov 29 at Zhenghua Nature Park along with volunteers from Bunny Wonderland.

In this case, the animals survived.

"The rabbits were handed over to Bunny Wonderland for recovery and care, and have been affectionately named Zayne and Zenni," said SPCA, adding that both incidents have been reported to the authorities and are currently under investigation.
