2 trucks checked at Tuas Checkpoint found carrying 1.4 tonnes of illegally imported M'sian produce
Around 1.4 tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables illegally imported from Malaysia were seized by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) during an operation conducted on April 2 and 3.
Jointly conducted by SFA and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the operation targeted delivery trucks that transport produce intended for direct distribution to retailers and customers.
ICA officers at Tuas Checkpoint had noticed discrepancies in the consignment on the two trucks and referred them to SFA for further checks.
SFA found undeclared and under-declared cargo such as capsicum, Japanese cucumber, lime and cai xin being transported by two importers in the trucks.
All the illegally imported produce was seized.

SFA is following up with further investigations and will not hesitate to take enforcement action.
In Singapore, food can only be imported by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied with a valid import permit.
Offenders who illegally import fresh fruits and vegetables shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
