2 men arrested for locking units with bicycle locks, believed to be linked to other cases islandwide
Two men, aged 41 and 42, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in two cases of loanshark harassment.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the cases located at Towner Road and Everton Park between Jan 25 and 26.
The gates of the two units were locked with bicycle locks which were seized as case exhibits.
Police officers identified the two men and arrested them on Jan 26.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believe to be involved in other similar cases islandwide.
The men will be charged in court on Jan 28 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5000 and $50,000, with up to five years' jail, and up to six strokes of the cane.
The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities: "Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist the loansharks in any way.
