Two Chinese restaurants located next to each other in Boat Quay are suspended two weeks from Nov 19 to Dec 2.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said Shandong Restaurant at 69 Boat Quay and Beijing Roast Duck House at 68 Boat Quay each accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and was each fined a total of $800 for the same two offences: failure to keep its premises free of infestation and failure to register an assistant.

Both restaurants are part of Hand In Hand Food, which also has another restaurant in Jalan Besar.

Videos of the two suspended restaurants can be found online.

Because of the suspension, all food handlers working in the restaurants would be required to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1, before they can resume work as food handlers.

The licensees are also required to ensure that all food hygiene officers working in the suspended premises, if any, re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.

SFA added that food business operators should observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times. This includes engaging only registered food handlers and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of licensed premises, including toilets within.
