19 commercial vehicles caught on expressways without permit in 3-day islandwide blitz
A total of 166 commercial vehicles were stopped for checks during a three-day islandwide enforcement blitz against errant commercial vehicle drivers from Aug 18 to 20.
The Traffic Police and Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued 121 summonses for various traffic offences, including speeding, using a mobile communication device while driving, failing to keep left and failing to properly secure load on vehicle.
Ninety-three LTA-related violations were detected, including 19 vehicles found travelling on expressways without a permit and seven overloaded vehicles.
Both offences carry a fine of up to $1,000, jail up to three months or both for first-time offenders, while repeat offenders are liable to a fine of up to $2,000, jail up to six months, or both.
Seventeen heavy vehicles were caught failing to display a speed limiter label visibly at the top right portion of the front windscreen.
Speed limiters are crucial safety devices installed within the vehicle that effectively restrict the vehicle's maximum speed.
The offence carries a fine of up to $1,000 or jail up to three months. Repeat offenders are liable to a fine of up to $2,000 or a jail up to six months.
