16-year-old boy nabbed for pasting debtor's note outside Eunos Crescent unit

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case on Sept 30 at about 7.55pm.

A debtor's note had been pasted outside a unit at Eunos Crescent.

With the aid of police cameras and through ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division, Jurong Police Division and Clementi Police Division identified the teenager and arrested him within five hours.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

A mobile phone was also seized as a case exhibit.

He will be charged in court on Oct 2 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loan shark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with a prison term of up to five years and up to six strokes of the cane.

The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities and those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are also advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.
