The nurse who once made headlines for her $2 charity fair game booth is proving once again that compassion doesn't take a break.

Last weekend, nurse Emily Yap and her volunteer group, Dunearn Youth, delivered grocery care packs to vulnerable families with special needs children living in rental flats.

Their goal: to turn expiring CDC vouchers into meaningful help for those who need it most.

Her mother, Stomper Audrey, shared photos of the heartwarming initiative with Stomp.

Turning vouchers into groceries - and smiles

"Some families have little, yet their hearts are overflowing," Ms Yap said.

"Their laughter, love, and quiet strength left a mark on us. Their mothers greeted us with tired smiles that hid exhaustion but shone with quiet pride."

Each family chose groceries with a $100 budget, on top of healthier options provided by the Dunearn Youth team, such as fruits, vegetables, high-fibre bread and low-fat milk.

But for Ms Yap, care isn't merely about what goes into a shopping bag - it's also what goes into the heart.

"Volunteers made care cards filled with encouragement," she said. "I wrote a motivational note for every student, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and capable of great things."

The team also used the opportunity to share the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and handed out pre-loved toys through their Recycle Right campaign.

Ms Yap hopes her story will inspire more Singaporeans to put their unused CDC vouchers to good use before they expire on Dec 31.

"Consider using them to bless a vulnerable family or senior, or donate them to a nursing home," she said. "Vouchers may expire, but kindness never does."

"Philanthropy isn't just giving - it's sparking change," Ms Yap concluded.

"Together, we grow stronger. Together, we build community. This is our Singapore Story."
