SMRT praises bus captain who helped to put out car fire at Bukit Timah Road
SMRT has commended the quick-thinking actions of one of its bus captains, who stepped in to help tackle a car fire along Bukit Timah Road on Aug 17.
In an earlier report by Stomp, Stomper Lim shared a TikTok video showing the driver using a fire extinguisher on the burning vehicle opposite KK Women's and Children's Hospital before firefighters arrived.
In response to a Stomp query, Mr Vincent Gay, deputy managing director of SMRT Buses, confirmed the incident and praised the bus captain's actions.
"On Aug 17 at around 5pm, while operating Bus Service 960e along Bukit Timah Road, our bus captain noticed a car on fire on the opposite side of the road," Mr Gay said.
"With the safety of passengers in mind, he calmly brought the bus to a stop at the next bus stop outside KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
"Without hesitation, he took the fire extinguisher onboard and rushed forward to help put out the fire.
"We are proud of our bus captain for his brave and selfless actions.
"His quick response and willingness to step forward in a time of need reflect the very best of SMRT, living out our WeCare service ethos and our belief in Doing Right and Doing Good."
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp that the fire involved the engine compartment of a car and was extinguished using a water jet and a hose reel.
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
