It's not every day you see a free service that draws a loyal crowd -- but one kind uncle has been quietly offering traditional foot massages for free outside Heartbeat@Bedok.

Stomper Francis, who spotted the man near the FairPrice supermarket at Block 212 Bedok North Street 1, told Stomp: "This uncle has been doing this free social service for many years."

According to Francis, the uncle provides foot massage physical therapy at no cost, and numerous elderly residents queue patiently for their turn.

"He speaks fluent English and told me the foot massage is free," he said.

"People can donate voluntarily by purchasing a small bottle of massage oil.

"He's also fluent in Mandarin and dialects, which really helps him connect with the seniors."

Francis said he spoke to some of those waiting who shared that the foot massages help to improve blood circulation, relieve muscle tension and pain, and promote relaxation.

Each session lasts about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the condition of the person's foot.

"You hardly find such free services in Singapore, especially traditional massage from the older generation like this uncle," Francis added.

When asked if he had received a massage from the man, Francis said: "No, the queue is always too long. I don't have the patience to wait."
