A Singaporean woman was on a shopping trip at Johor Bahru City Square mall in Malaysia when she injured her right leg.

Despite limping, 20-year-old Nurafiza allegedly received no help on her way back to Singapore and could only rely on the friend she was with - until Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) came to their rescue at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Nurafiza's father, Stomper Imran, shared the incident that occurred on the night of May 3.

He said: "Despite being in great pain, my daughter managed to limp her way back from the mall to the checkpoint with the support of her friend.

"While still on the Malaysian side, she approached the immigration officers for assistance as she was no longer able to walk on her own. However, to her dismay, her request for help was denied.

"She was forced to continue limping in pain, supported only by her friend, and cried all the way to the public bus. When she approached the bus driver for assistance, she was further ignored. The driver, showing no empathy, asked for a doctor's letter to prove her injury instead of offering help."

Imran said this was a "stark contrast" to what happened when Nurafiza reached Woodlands Checkpoint at around 11pm.

Stomp understands that Nurafiza's friend approached ICA staff for help.

"They immediately rendered assistance with care and professionalism," Imran added. "They reassured her, provided physical support and made sure she was not left alone.

"A second group of ICA officers promptly managed her immigration clearance and contacted an ambulance.

"One of the officers also contacted my wife to explain the situation and informed us that our daughter was being sent to the hospital via ambulance."

Nurafiza was taken to Woodlands Health Campus and discharged at around 5am. She was given 14 days of medical leave for a dislocated patella, a condition in which the kneecap slips out of its groove at the knee joint.

Imran told Stomp: "The ICA officers' swift action, compassion and attentiveness gave us great comfort during a very distressing moment.

"I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all the ICA officers involved, especially the two who proactively stepped forward to assist my daughter after her friend asked for help. Their dedication and kindness exemplify the very best of public service."

The Stomper, who shared a picture of Nurafiza's injured leg and medical report, said: "As a parent, this experience highlights the stark difference in treatment across the border. It made us truly appreciate the strong support and care provided by the ICA team here in Singapore.

"Thank you once again for your continued commitment to the well-being and safety of all Singaporeans. We are sincerely grateful."
