A fire broke out in the void deck of Block 56 Teban Gardens Road on Sept 7.

Stomper Pumpkindai was on her way to buy groceries when she saw the fire.

"A lady passer-by was already calling the police, but we couldn't find any hose or water source to put out the flames," recounted the Stomper.

She ran to the Sheng Siong supermarket at Block 61 across the road for help.

"Without hesitation, a staff member grabbed a fire extinguisher and followed me over while another lady staff member brought pails of water to help douse the fire," said the Stomper.

"Thanks to their quick response and willingness to step forward, the fire was put out before it could spread further."

The Stomper added: "I am truly grateful to these two members of Sheng Siong staff who acted so selflessly.

"In that moment, they reminded me that heroes don't always wear uniforms - sometimes, they're the everyday people around us who step up when it matters most."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 11am.

The fire involved discarded items located on the first floor and was extinguished by a member of the public using a dry powder extinguisher before SCDF's arrival.

A Sheng Siong spokesperson told Stomp: "Our store manager was alerted to the incident and promptly assisted in extinguishing the fire."

There were no reported injuries, according to SCDF.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
