From 'shy' to 'insane': Blackpink concert draws attention to S'pore's crowd energy... again
"Singapore, I know you're a bit shy… You're either shy or too busy shooting on your phones."
Clips of Blackpink member Rosé gently calling out the crowd on the first night of the group's Deadline concert in Singapore (Nov 28) have gone viral, drawing renewed attention to the city's concert energy — or lack thereof.
In a video that has racked up over a million views, TikTok user @fazaaisyaa described the Nov 28 crowd at the National Stadium as "the most dead and boring crowd" she had ever experienced at a concert.
She added that it was "upsetting" to sing along to Blackpink's song 'Jump' while being seated.
"If you don't know the song, you're not singing or vibing to them, why buy the tickets at the [sic] first place??" fazaaisyaa wrote.
Many fellow concertgoers agreed and shared their own observations.
Tiktok user @elle wrote: "The crowd looks like it's mostly parents I've had two men talking about medisave and government for the whole concert behind me LOL."
Others pointed out that the audience members captured in fazaaisyaa's video looked like they "forced to be there" or as though they were watching a film instead of a concert.
Commenters from the Philippines and Malaysia suggested Blackpink should visit their countries instead. @syalemonkek wrote "Blackpink should just skip SG and go to Malaysia", while @ms.shinefinds added "Come to Philippines and you will see hahaha".
This isn't the first time Singapore's concert culture has drawn flak online. Earlier in October, Stomp reported on angry reactions from Mariah Carey fans who were told to sit down at the pop star's concert.
"This is very sad for Blackpink," concluded fazaaisyaa, who had also hoped that the crowd on subsequent nights would be "better".
Righting the wrongs on day two
Her wishes seemed to be met on the second night. In a TikTok video posted by @mana.jesslyn, Blackpink members Rosé and Lisa can be seen praising the crowd for its energy. "Singapore day two, you guys are insane," hollered Rosé — a stark contrast from her comments on the previous night's crowd.
"It's about five times louder than yesterday," added the New Zealand-South Korean singer.
TikTok user @jojojolynlynlyn said in her 1-minute video that the crowd was "definitely louder" and that "there's improvement", though some in the standing area still resembled "NPCs".
NPC is an acronym for "non-player character" in video games. The term is used critically on social media to describe people who are insignificant, lacking independent thought or living life on 'autopilot' mode.
Many netizens agreed, noting that the crowd on Nov 29 screamed and jumped more. User @abulabu even said they could not jump freely without bumping into other attendees.
Jojojolynlynlyn also responded to comments that artists should not hold concerts in Singapore, stating that tour destinations are not decided by consumers and that it's "not a competition".
The on-screen text read: "and we can't control who buys the tickets from other countries (iykyk)".
Despite critiques, Blinks (Blackpink fans) like jojojolynlynlyn expressed hope that the crowd on the final night of the concert would be just as energetic.
"Today (Nov 30) better be loud!" wrote user @lalicesaaaaa wrote.
Blackpink will be performing in Singapore for one more night on Nov 30 as part of the group's Deadline World Tour. The tour will resume in Tokyo, Japan on Jan 16, 2026.
