A 77-year-old woman was hit by a minibus and reportedly dragged underneath it for more than 1.5km before her body was found on the PIE.

The 66-year-old minibus driver left the scene but was subsequently arrested by the police.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 7.10am on Oct 16. Preliminary investigations found that the fatal incident happened at the junction of Jurong West Street 61 and Jurong West Avenue 4. The victim’s body was eventually found along the PIE towards Changi Airport.

The victim, Madam Liu (transliterated), worked as a cleaner.

Her son, Mr Huang (transliterated), told Shin Min Daily News that he had chatted with his mother briefly that morning, and did not expect her to be involved in a fatal accident shortly after.

Although his mother was well into her 70s and walked slowly due to weakness in her legs, she was still working and remained mentally alert.

“My mother would have breakfast at Pioneer Mall or somewhere nearby every day before heading to work at 10am. That was her usual routine,” he said.

Huang said he received a call from the police at about 8.20am that day to confirm his mother’s identity, before being informed of the accident.

## Victim was responding coherently on the morning of accident

Huang said he understood that investigators had followed a trail of blood from the expressway before establishing that the accident had occurred near his home.

“From the pedestrian crossing to the expressway, the distance is 1.5km. My mother was dragged all the way there.

“When I chatted with my mother yesterday, she was responding coherently and showed no signs of dementia. There was no way she would have walked onto the PIE. I hope to clarify this to the public,” he said.

## Woman pronounced dead at scene

In response to Stomp’s queries, the police confirmed that a 77-year-old female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Preliminary investigations found that the woman was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a minibus at the junction of Jurong West Street 61 and Jurong West Avenue 4. However, the driver had left the scene before the police arrived.

The police subsequently arrested a 66-year-old male minibus driver for driving without due care and attention causing death.

Investigations are ongoing.

Footage of the aftermath later went viral on TikTok, showing a blue tent set up along the expressway as officers were stationed around the scene.

Two lanes are cordoned off, with a tow truck, several Traffic Police motorcycles, and a police car at the scene.

## Son to conduct soul-summoning ritual

Huang said he had yet to collect his mother’s body and was waiting for the police to notify him.

He added that he initially had doubts about the reported location of the accident and had sought further clarification from the police.

“Only after the police confirmed the location this morning could I proceed with the soul-summoning ritual,” he said.
