'T4 is one of the biggest own-goals ever': Redditor blasts Changi Airport's Terminal 4

Published

A Redditor has blasted the relative inaccessibility of Changi Airport Terminal 4, claiming it is one of Changi Airport Group's (CAG) "biggest own-goals".

Reddditor @Low_Debt_5937 posted an image on Nov 18 showing a lift to T4, located next to a staircase, with a "work in progress" barrier at its entrance.

The image is accompanied by the heading: "Getting to T4 on transit wasn't difficult enough already…"

"T4 is one of the biggest own-goals ever in airport planning, especially given CAG's (Changi Airport Group) reputation," said the Redditor in a comment. "Yep, T4 is obviously where CAG considers the passengers unimportant."

The post had garnered 428 upvotes and 96 comments at press time.

'T4 is easily the worst terminal in Changi'

Some netizens agreed with the original poster. "T4 is easily the worst terminal in Changi," said one. "Baked in inconvenience with the lack of a sky train at the same price vs the main terminal complex."

"I cannot understand why they could not build a skytrain from T2 to T4 but could construct an underground system to T5. Isn't T4 part of CAG?" said another.

"T4 is like a punishment for being a cheap a– by flying budget," remarked yet another Redditor, though some disagreed and pointed out that T4 is not a budget terminal as full-service carriers such as Cathay Pacific and Korean Air operate from there.

Others offered suggestions on how to get to the terminal more easily. "I usually alight at Jewel and take the shuttle bus from the ground floor main entrance. It's pretty straightforward," said another.

Several wondered why the original poster did not take a taxi or private hire vehicle to the terminal's main entrance, calling them "cheap".

'I may be one of the few who actually prefer Terminal 4'

Nevertheless, T4 had its share of fans among the commenters.

"As a Singapore resident I quite enjoy flying out from T4. It's empty and quick, the security is after immigration so you can roam until boarding, the lounges are great (priority pass too), and it's bright and airy like T3," said one

Another noted: "I may be one of the few who actually prefer Terminal 4. It's not as chaotic as Terminal 3, free to roam after security, and…. Many travel to the airport via cab anyway and even if via train, it's still okaaaaay to take the shuttle bus unless of course you're bringing your whole wardrobe for travel."
