The Muji outlet at 100 AM mall in Tanjong Pagar has closed, just a day after the brand announced the closure on Facebook on Nov 24.

In its post, Muji said the decision was made "after careful consideration as part of our business strategy" and thanked customers for their support.

In response to Stomp's queries, the popular Japanese lifestyle brand said the decision was made following a review of business performance.

"The store was not meeting expected commercial results, and the Board decided to discontinue operations at this location," the spokesperson said.

They also added that all employees at the outlet were informed in advance of the closure and were transferred to other Muji stores, with no job losses resulting from the decision.

Mixed reactions

Some commenters expressed shock at the closure, while others noted that footfall at the store had been low.

The Tanjong Pagar outlet first opened in April 2023, marking its 20th anniversary in Singapore.

An Instagram post at the time said the store would cater to working professionals and tourists, with a retail space of 1,050 square meters and accommodate up to 70 diners.

Muji currently operates 13 retail stores and three Cafe&Meal Muji outlets in Singapore.
