SINGAPORE - The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will sound an "Important Message" signal through the islandwide Public Warning System (PWS) on Feb 15, at 6.20pm.

The signal will sound for 20 seconds on all smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app, which have the app's notification and alert settings enabled, said the SCDF on Feb 13. It will be followed by a brief text message on the PWS sounding. Upon hearing the signal, they should tune in to any local radio station or Mediacorp TV channel to learn more about it. The SCDF said the public need not be alarmed by the minute-long sounding exercise.

The broadcast exercise is held to mark Total Defence (TD) day, said the SCDF. It is also part of its efforts to familiarise the public with the PWS signals and to raise awareness on how the public should react upon hearing them.
