Netizen slammed for posting photos of travellers sleeping at Changi Airport: 'Let them rest'
A Facebook user who shared images of travellers sleeping on the floor at Changi Airport's Terminal One has been slammed by netizens, with many noting that this is commonly seen in major airports.
@Hady Jay, a food blogger, made the post on Facebook group Complaint Singapore on Feb 12 with the caption "Issit common to sleep at T1 arrival hall?".
He writes that he observed the sleeping tourists while waiting for his brother-in-law to arrive from Perth and was "quite surprised".
The post has received at least 542 reactions and 624 comments.
'Where do you want them to sleep?'
Netizens generally urged him to let the travellers be. "Maybe their flights are delayed and they are very tired or feel unwell. Not everyone can afford a room especially for just a very short stay, but everyone can be kind and understanding," said one.
Another noted: "Some travellers have very long layovers or overnight transit. Sleeping at the airport is quite common worldwide, especially in major hubs."
"Where do you want them to sleep? in your house ah?" said a commenter, while another noted sarcastically: "This happens in airports globally. Did you just come out from a cave?"
Hady Jay explained in a comment that his post was meant to ask the airport to provide better facilities for travellers to rest. "I've travelled to more than 50 countries where I've audited and blogged about my travel overseas as a ghost traveller. I've seen the good ... bad ... ugly ... on travelling.. These comments are as I've expected lah."
Some netizens did agree that it was not the most pleasant sight, with one calling it "unsightly". Another commented that it was unworthy of a "world class airport".
