Man accused of housebreaking to steal cash, CDC vouchers was convicted of similar offence in 2016
A man who was convicted of housebreaking in 2016 is accused of committing a similar offence on May 31.
The alleged repeat offender, Muhammad Hizwan Hashim, 27, appeared in court on June 2 to receive a housebreaking charge.
Following the 2016 conviction, he was ordered to undergo reformative training, which has young offenders detained in a centre to undergo a strict regimen that can include foot drills and counselling.
On May 31, he allegedly unlocked the living room window grilles of a flat at Block 966 Jurong West Street 93 and entered the unit at around 3.15am.
The Singaporean is said to have done so to steal printed copies of CDC vouchers worth $193, as well as $65 and RM168 (S$50) in cash.
In a statement on June 1, the police said that they found out about the incident just hours later, at around 8am on the same day.
Officers arrested Hizwan soon after and the items were recovered from him, said a police spokesperson.
His case will be mentioned again in court on June 30.
For housebreaking to commit an offence, an offender can be sentenced to up to 10 years’ jail, fined and caned.
