A 44-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 79-year-old woman in Sengkang.

The police said on June 2 that they received a call for assistance at a residential unit in Fernvale Road at about 11.48am on June 1.

Officers then found the woman lying motionless inside the unit, and she was subsequently pronounced dead by Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics.

The man was arrested at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties knew each other.

The man is expected to be charged in court with murder on June 3.

If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

Police investigations are ongoing.
