A 43-year-old woman has claimed she was molested by a 26-year-old man on the escalator at Pioneer MRT station on April 18.

Ms Liu told Shin Min Daily News that she was taking her daughter out for dinner when the incident happened.

While riding the escalator up to the platform, she felt someone grab her buttocks.

"I was startled and turned around to find that it was a man," she said.

"Behind him was a male student who seemed to have witnessed the whole process and looked at me in shock."

She confronted the man on the spot, but he denied the act.

Ms Liu then called the police and claimed that the man tried to escape the situation by walking down the upward-moving escalator.

"I yelled at him and took the escalator down as soon as I reached the platform."

When she caught up to him, the man was about to tap out of the station.

She stopped him on the spot and with the help of other commuters, asked the station staff for assistance.

"He denied the act several times. About 10 minutes later, several police officers arrived and took us to a room in the station to take our statements."

Ms Liu took to Xiaohongshu to share the incident, saying: "I chose to call the police to set an example for my daughter and other victims - bravely protect yourself and punish the evil!"

The police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
