'I just want the truth': Widow seeks closure after husband dies in motorcycle crash
A 38-year-old train technician died in a suspected motorcycle accident on July 18 while on his way to work - prompting his wife to appeal for witnesses to help uncover what really happened.
Mohammed Fairuz Razali, an SBS Transit employee, was reportedly riding his motorcycle along Bedok North Road towards Upper Changi Road at about 10.50pm when he is believed to have lost control and was flung off.
He was found unconscious at the scene and later pronounced dead in hospital.
Police confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
Thought it was a minor accident
His wife, 39-year-old Hazura, told Shin Min Daily News that she had been asleep with her children when she noticed several missed calls from her husband's colleagues.
"I was asleep at home with the children when the phone rang. I saw several missed calls from my husband's colleagues," said the homemaker.
When she finally picked up, she was told that her husband had been in an accident.
She rushed to Changi General Hospital, thinking it was a minor incident - only to be met with the devastating news that her husband had died.
"The police officer asked me to identify the body, informing me that my husband had been unconscious when he was brought in three hours ago," she said.
Police also told her that Fairuz had been flung nearly 10 metres from his motorcycle, which was found severely damaged.
Investigations are expected to take at least two weeks.
Appealing for witnesses
Hazura, still in shock, is searching for answers.
"He was a kind, selfless person who always helped others, even when he was going through hardship himself," she told Mothership.
In an interview with Shin Min, she added: "If it was just a simple skid, why was the scooter so badly damaged? I just want to know the truth."
She is now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash - or has relevant dashcam footage - to come forward.
A family friend also posted a plea on Facebook urging the public to help.
"We were only told that he had a self-skidded accident on the road, but we are pleading for any eyewitnesses who happen to be at the scene or have any records on your dashcam footage of the accident," the post read.
