'Heinous act': Multiple cats abandoned at Woodlands estate, cat lover appeals for fosterers
Multiple cats were found abandoned in a Woodlands estate on Nov 4, prompting a Facebook user to appeal for fosterers to take in the animals.
Sheena Chan shared photos of the cats on the Pets Up for Adoption (Singapore) Facebook group, showing them curled up in cardboard boxes.
Some were huddled in void deck corners, while others crouched between bicycle racks. Ms Chan said there were nine cats, though TikTok user @lizkammie1 reported that eight had been left behind at Woodlands Block 889C.
In her post, Ms Chan expressed disapproval of the previous owner's actions, calling it "inconsiderate" and a "heinous act of abandonment".
"This is a very unfair situation where the owner walks away and leaves behind a mess for others to clean after," she wrote.
She added that the cats were at risk of being attacked by other animals or run over by vehicles.
"My heart aches for situations like this and as unfair as it is, if you have a heart for small animals, you can never turn away from them," she said, appealing for fosterers who are able to take in the strays.
Ms Chan added that a report has been submitted to the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster within the National Parks Board and the main touchpoint for animal matters in Singapore.
Animal welfare group Cat Welfare Society (CWS) has engaged a trapper to neuter the cats and plans to return them to the area afterward, Ms Chan said.
On both social media platforms, netizens criticised the abandonment, calling it "heartless".
"May not necessarily be pet owners, it could be some factory or industrial state that doesn't allow people to feed the cats," another suggested, while others offered to take the animals in or donate cat food.
Stomp has reached out to AVS and CWS for comment.
