'Heartwarming' S'pore influencer helps restaurant employee in China who had to attend to sick son
A Singaporean influencer has gone viral for helping the only staff member at an eatery in China to man her outlet when she had to rush off to pick up her sick son.
According to TikToker @reefkey, the incident took place at Xinjiang Cuisine Halal Restaurant, opposite Daming Lake in the city of Jinan.
His 76-second video subtitled "Malay Man helps restaurant staff in China", posted on Dec 5, has since garnered at least 488,300 views, 26,900 reactions and 120 comments.
'I signalled to her that I'll take care of her stall'
Reefkey says in the clip that he was setting up his camera when the woman took out pen and paper to write something. He thought she was doing her work until she showed him the note she had written – she needed to leave the restaurant to pick up her sick son from school.
"She told me to eat slowly and I signalled to her that I'll take care of her stall," says reefkey.
In the 20 minutes that she was gone, reefkey managed to explain the situation to a food delivery rider, who in turn explained to a couple who had come in to dine. They all waited patiently for the staff.
Reefkey says that when the woman returned with her son, she kept fussing over him to make sure he was fine. She even encouraged the boy to speak to him in English.
'This is so heartwarming and wholesome'
Netizens were touched by the influencer's act of kindness, as well as the exchanges between him and the mother and son.
"After seeing so many videos of people arguing about every single thing, it's really nice to see your heartwarming video pop up," said a commenter. "seriously [sic] people need to be kinder and respectful to each other."
"This is so heartwarming and wholesome," another said.
Singaporeans were proud of their travelling compatriot, with one declaring that he had left a great impression of Singaporeans. "Bro, u [sic] really flying the singaporean [sic] flag high man."
Amid the kind moments, one actually noticed the food at the eatery.
"The noodles look sedap (Malay for delicious)," said the commenter.
