'Dangerous and inconsiderate': Eight cyclists take up two lanes in viral clip
A group of eight cyclists drew criticism online after they were filmed occupying two lanes while riding on the road.
A video posted by TikTok user @Eijaz Farid on Nov 18 shows the cyclists waiting at a traffic light. As the light turns green, they continue riding in the same formation, with at least two cyclists in each lane.
"So they expect us cars at the back to drive within the bicycle speed limit?" asks the person behind the camera. "So what should we do? Hop over and overtake?"
The clip had garnered over 145,700 views and 2,000 likes at press time.
It is unclear where the incident took place. Stomp has reached out to the TikToker for comment.
According to an advisory by the Land and Transport Authority, cyclists riding in groups must keep to a maximum length of five devices, in a single file or in pairs.
Netizens riled
Many netizens called the cyclists' actions dangerous and inconsiderate, urging the authorities to take action.
"They know that the chance of getting caught is almost zero," said one, while others called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
Some speculated that the group might have planned to split up, which could explain why they were in different lanes.
