A diner at OCBC Centre's Peach Garden has accused restaurant staff of unclear food pricing, resulting in her paying $328 for a three-combo roast meat platter.

In a Facebook post uploaded on Feb 24, a user surnamed Lee described her shock at receiving a $627.80 bill for her meal at Peach Garden. The Facebook post has been deleted.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Ms Lee alleged that staff had served pineapple tarts to her table, claiming they were free. However, the bill later included a $36 charge for "tibits", presumably for the pastry.

In addition, Ms Lee claimed that staff at the restaurant did not clarify the terms and conditions of a coupon she redeemed from restaurant reservation platform Eatigo — a 50 per cent discount was only applied dim sum and selected dishes.

Restaurant manager reportedly persuaded to order off-menu item

Initially, Ms Lee had only intended to order roast pork, but the manager purportedly recommended a "special dish" — a three-combo platter that included roast pork — which was not listed on the menu.

Ms Lee asked why the dish was not listed on the menu, and the manager purportedly said it was a "special arrangement" and did not mention the price. When Ms Lee received the bill, she saw the meal amounted to $627.80, with the platter costing $328.

"I feel I've been misled. Customers deserve transparency in pricing," Ms Lee said.

In her post, Ms Lee requested the restaurant management to clarify the situation and advised netizens to confirm the price of "special dishes" before ordering them.

A photo attached to Ms Lee's post showed that the dish included:

  • 10 pieces of suckling pig
  • 12 pieces of roast pork
  • One portion of roast duck

Price of three-combo platter not on menu

When Shin Min Daily News visited the restaurant, the price of the three-combo platter was not listed on the menu.

The individual dishes that made up the platter were as follows:

  • Whole suckling pig: $428
  • Whole roast duck: $90
  • A portion of roast pork: $32.

Pineapple tarts were also listed at $22 in the menu, $12 cheaper than what Ms Lee was charged.

A manager at the restaurant told Shin Min that staff would clearly state the prices of dishes when taking orders, suggesting Ms Lee was aware of the platter's price.

Another spokesperson told Shin Min that the incident was a case of misunderstanding, and that the issue has been resolved.
