Car crashes into Jalan Kayu eatery; tyre hits diner
A 55-year-old man was injured after a car was seen crashing into a Jalan Kayu eatery on March 29.
In CCTV footage posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, a BMW is shown coming to a halt near diners at the restaurant’s outdoor seating area. The sound of screeching tyres can be heard.
Several diners are seen standing up from their seats in shock, while a man, who appears to have been hit by a tyre, is seen falling to the ground.
Mr Jun, a 51-year-old diner, told Lianhe Zaobao that he and his friend were at the outdoor area of the restaurant when the accident happened.
He said a car tyre was "flying" towards them and hit his friend in the abdomen.
Mr Lin, the 50-year-old car owner, claimed he was trying to overtake the car in front of his when it suddenly turned right.
Mr Lin's car hit the other car and spun before mounting the kerb.
The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to an accident involving two cars at 246 Jalan Kayu at 8.55am.
The 55-year-old man was conscious when taken to Sengkang General Hospital, said police.
A 52-year-old car driver is assisting with investigations, police said, adding that he sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital.
According to videos and photos on social media platforms, the impact of the crash caused a lamp post to topple.
The car’s bonnet was severely damaged and one of its tyres was dislodged. Some bicycles were also seen lying on the ground.
Police investigations are ongoing.
