# ‘Can I kiss you?’ Man storms into nail salon harassing female staff with customers and children present

A man who walked into a nail salon in Taiwan allegedly asked a female employee if he could kiss her, leaving staff and customers shocked and prompting the shop to tighten its security measures.

The incident happened on the afternoon of Oct 16 at a nail salon in Banqiao District in New Taipei City.

Based on Taiwanese media reports, the man entered the shop with a drink in hand.

Initially looking like he was there to visit someone, a long-haired employee in a black cap and jacket approached him to offer assistance

However, she was stunned when he asked if he could kiss her.

Thinking she had misheard him, the employee reportedly asked him to repeat himself.

He then asked again: “Can I kiss you?”

Based on CCTV footage, his question prompted the female employer to retreat quickly in fear, though he continued advancing towards her and appeared to reach out towards her.

Other people inside the shop, including customers receiving nail treatments and children, were also shocked by the incident.

## Shop owner suspects man deliberately targeted salon

Speaking to EBC News, the salon owner, identified as Ms Lin, said everyone in the salon was stunned when the incident occurred.

Ms Lin said the man’s family later approached the shop to apologise and ask for forgiveness.

She decided not to pursue the matter, but remained uneasy after reflecting on his actions.

“He walked past the salon earlier and peeked inside before leaving. He then turned back and entered the shop,” she told reporters, describing what CCTV cameras had captured.

This led Ms Lin to suspect that he might have deliberately targeted the salon, which is mostly frequented by women.

Taiwanese media reports noted that neighbouring businesses — including a drinks shop and a dumpling restaurant — had not reported similar incidents involving the man.

“Because we’re located on the ground floor, passers-by sometimes walk in to ask about our services,” Ms Lin said, explaining why the shop’s entrance is usually unlocked.

Following the incident, the shop announced that its entrance would remain locked from now on. Customers who wish to enquire about services will have to contact staff through an intercom.

TVBS reported that Ms Lin has since bought a bottle of pepper spray for each employee to carry, including when travelling to and from work.

A larger bottle of pepper spray will also be kept at the shop for emergencies.
