Alleged dumpster diver climbs into e-waste bin at Woods Square Mall, takes item
A man who was seen half-submerged in an e-waste bin at Woods Square Mall is alleged to be a dumpster diver who took an item from the bin.
The incident was captured by a customer queuing for a free 5G SIM card replacement, who saw the man climb into the bin. It is unclear what he took from the bin.
According to TikToker @checkweii, the incident took place on Nov 24 at around 7.20pm at Basement 2 of Woods Square Mall.
Captioned "?", the video uploaded on Nov 25 has since garnered over 59,200 views, 4,174 reactions, and 40 comments as of press time.
Violators may face fines of up to $5,000
The e-waste bin in question is operated by ALBA E-Waste Singapore and provides the community with a place to safely dispose of unwanted electronics for recycling.
ALBA E-Waste Smart Recycling Pte Ltd is one of the appointed Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operators designated by the National Environment Agency (NEA).
Under the Environmental Public Health Act, all waste brought to a public disposal facility or collected by NEA employees, contractors, or agents is considered the property of the NEA.
Anyone caught tampering with or removing waste from these facilities may be fined up to $5,000, with higher penalties for repeat offenders.
'Don't disturb the fellow returning home': Netizen
The incident left many people guessing. "What he doing? Why he put his head in the machine?" said one commenter.
"I don't think this is what they mean by recycle to give it a new life...," a netizen wrote, while another had their own explanation for the man's actions: "Recycle bin smell nice."
"Now you know why recycling in Singapore can't go far," another netizen quipped.
Another suggested: "Go Elias Mall, one got [sic] a lot of stuff. I found an Xbox b4 [sic] and got it fixed."
One user joked: "He doesn't belong there, put him in the green one."
