'All of you are heroes!': TikToker spends eight hours rescuing kitten trapped in drain

A TikToker's late-night rescue mission to save a kitten trapped in a drain has melted hearts online.

In her video, Carin Chua, who runs the TikTok account @thespicyducky, documented her hours-long effort to save a black kitten hiding in a drain in the vicinity of Tampines Street 32. The timestamp showed that she began her search at about 5.30pm.

Together with two friends, the 26-year-old spent the next few hours combing the area before finally locating the kitten around 9pm.

The trio took turns climbing into the drain with flashlights, but the frightened feline refused to come out.

All-night effort

The rescue took so long that Ms Chua even returned home midway to grab an energy drink before rejoining her friends at the scene.

It was only after 2am that they finally managed to coax the kitten out - with the help of a bucket of water. The content creator then brought the kitten home, naming it Pickle.

Ms Chua told Stomp that her determination to rescue Pickle stemmed from how heartbroken she had been after being unable to rescue a black cat earlier in August.

She had also just returned from an adoption drive on Oct 26. "Meeting Pickle after just felt like fate," she said.

She also revealed that Pickle's two siblings had already been rescued earlier and are now cared for by the couple who helped with the search for Pickle.

Since rescuing Pickle, Ms Chua has also created an Instagram account, @littlespicypickle, to share more updates on how the newly rescued kitten is adapting to domestic life.

"She's still scared and likes to hide under my bed after eating, but I'm so proud of her for eating well and being so brave," shared Ms Chua.

'Heroes with the biggest hearts'

In a follow-up comment, Ms Chua confirmed that the rescue began on Oct 26 and stretched into the wee hours of Oct 27.

Many viewers praised her persistence, especially as the rescue concluded just before a heavy thunderstorm hit.

One commenter wrote: "She would have drowned last night if not for you guys!"

Others hailed the trio as "heroes" with "the biggest hearts" for refusing to give up the search in spite of how long it took.

As of press time, the video has garnered over 2,200 likes and 100 comments.
