Stomper wonders why man in army uniform riding pillion on 'oversized' PMA in Yishun
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
A Stomper was left with mixed feelings after seeing a seemingly able-bodied man riding pillion on a personal mobility aid (PMA).
Stomper KhoJoo shared a photo of the sighting along Yishun Ring Road on Oct 16 at around 6am.
He said: "Many years ago, a maid was spotted carrying a bag for a National Serviceman (NSF).
"What I saw that morning brought things to a new level: a man in SAF No.4 taking a ride on an oversized PMA. The rider in front looked older than him.
"I don't know how I should feel. Shock, disgrace, disgusted or lol?
"As a man old enough to serve the nation, doesn't he feel weird taking a ride on something meant for people with walking difficulties? He was wearing combat boots so there's definitely nothing wrong with his legs.
"Or maybe this can be part of innovation in the near future. Imagine this: machine guns mounted all over the terrain and riding a PMA into the battleground."
In 2011, an NSF was photographed with his maid carrying his field pack. The picture went viral after being posted on Stomp and sparked heated debate online. The recruit was counselled following investigations by the Ministry of Defence.
