'My mum kissed another man': Stomper heartbroken by Primary 1 girl carrying weight of parents' break-up
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
A woman was left deeply moved after her Primary 1 daughter shared something a classmate confided in her, a story of family heartbreak far beyond what any seven-year-old should have to face.
The Stomper shared: "My daughter said her friend has been very quiet lately.
"One day, she whispered to my girl, 'My mum kissed another man in front of me. My dad cried after she left.'"
She added that the revelation "stopped me in my tracks" and that the girl is "too young to carry so much".
"How do you even begin to process something like that when you're only seven?" she asked.
"A child that young should be thinking about storybooks and recess, not trying to make sense of adult heartbreak."
The Stomper said she could only imagine the confusion and pain the child must be feeling.
"Watching her mother with someone new, while her father sinks into sadness," she said. "It must feel like the world she knew suddenly broke apart, and no one explained why.
"I hope the teachers will be more sensitive and take care of this poor girl."
